InterFor this course we will move you beyond the basics to more advanced techniques. We will cover: snow, ice and rock anchors, moving together, advanced rope work and belay stance management, route choice and retreat/descents off routes, and avalanche risk assessment skills.


For this mountaineering course a good level of fitness, trekking and basic rock climbing experience is required.  Please outline your experience in our booking form. The final course itinerary and content will be left to the discretion of the guide.





solid_blue_logoBecause of the technical nature of these trips, we only use instructors who hold the highest outdoor pursuits awards, in this case the Mountaineering Instructor Certificate. The MIC is a professional award and holders are assessed to high standards in the skills required for instructing winter mountaineering, including all aspects of winter mountaineering and climbing. We do not compromise on your safety.




Venue: the big ridge lines and gulleys around the refuge in the Toubkal Massif.


Ratio of Guide to Participants: due to the technical nature of this course the ratio is 1:1 or 1:2  guide/participant.


What is included in the price? guiding and instruction, transport, accommodation in a mountain refuge, mule and porter support, food (excluding snacks and bottled water).


Excluded from price: Flights, personal kit and pre- and post-course expenses are not included.


Day 1Travel from Marrakech to Imlil (1,740m) via taxi or mini bus. Trek to mountain refuge (3,200m): 5 to 6 hour day; about 10km of distance
Days 2 to 4Skills covered (within context of a mountain journey):
- snow, ice and rock anchors
- advanced rope work & belay stance management
- route choice and retreat/descents off routes
- avalanche risk assessment skills

And if wanted on one of the days we will climb Toubkal (4,167m) via North Col: 6 to 7 hour day
Day 5Trek down from refuge to Imlil and head back to Marrakech: 4 hour day
