Mountaineering in the High Atlas of Morocco: great ice/mixed lines, big ridges and good single-pitch cascades – and all with straightforward access. This still uncrowded area of the mountaineering world has so much to offer!
The Toubkal Massif is a fantastic place to hone your alpine climbing skills before venturing on to routes in the Alps that have a glacial approaches. With all that in mind we are offering a number of mountaineering trips and courses, so you can enjoy the High Atlas and get some input and instruction to help you refine your current skills and go beyond.
HEALTH & SAFETY
Because of the technical nature of these trips, we only use instructors who hold the highest outdoor pursuits awards, in this case the Mountaineering Instructor Certificate. The MIC is a professional award and holders are assessed to high standards in the skills required for instructing winter mountaineering, including all aspects of winter mountaineering and climbing. We do not compromise on your safety.
WINTER MOUNTAINEERING TRIPS AND COURSES
This course focuses on the getting you well versed in the basic winter mountaineering skills. We will look at: movement skills with crampons and ice axes, belay techniques, snow and rock anchors, basic rope work skills, route choice and avalanche risk assessment skills.
For this course we will move you beyond the basics to more advanced techniques. We will cover: snow, ice and rock anchors, moving together, advanced rope work and belay stance management, route choice and retreat/descents off routes, and avalanche risk assessment skills.
If you are looking to refine your mountaineering skills and tackle the challenge and adventure of the alpine ridges of the High Atlas with an experienced guide, this trip is for you! Your guide will instruct and coach you in winter mountaineering skills and lead you up the great ridges of the Toubkal Massif.
